Transportation in Taoyuan

Your complete guide to getting around Taoyuan - from airport transfers to local transport

Getting Around Taoyuan

Taoyuan's transport is built around the Taoyuan Metro Airport Line: one fast, clean ride that links the airport to the city and onward to Taipei. It's the cheapest way in, just a fraction of a taxi, and runs often enough that you rarely wait long. Buy a rechargeable EasyCard at any station. It works on the metro, city buses, and even some convenience-store purchases, so you skip the ticket queue every time. If you're staying in Taoyuan District itself, the local bus network fills the gaps the metro doesn't reach, routes radiate from the main rail station and Taoyuan HSR station. They're cheap and reliable. But signs are mostly in Chinese. The Google Translate camera or the bilingual "Bus Tracker Taoyuan" app keeps you from missing your stop. First-time trap: the metro's last train leaves the airport earlier than most red-eye arrivals expect. If you land after it stops, the official taxi rank on the arrivals level is the only honest option, ignore the freelance drivers who approach inside the terminal.
